How Leaders use Failures to Succeed
If you have not tried and failed, you have done nothing new in your life. How dreadful life would be if we were stuck in the same place, however comfortable it may be.
Leadership can be lonely sometimes. especially when you face a big setback. The fundamental of leadership is that the leader is finally accountable for the outcome. Good leaders use these failures as opportunities to rally the team around, learn from the experience, and pivot to move toward the next objective. Action is the best medicine to overcome procrastination and negative thoughts. Leaders should reach out to their network and deliberate on what happened, how things could be different etc. This helps the leader to look at things from an entirely new perspective and also share the learnings for others to benefit.
Leaders always have a choice at all points in time. Success depends on the ability to decide quickly and decisively. Weak leaders get paralyzed and fearless leaders decide and act.
Only actions convert to results. Failure now is a great insight in hindsight, you are only wiser now.
There is no better contribution to society than to give back the learnings you took in that episode of failure. We should not forget that most of the learnings that we have today have been shared by somebody out there. Keeping commercial confidentiality in mind, do share your insights through blogs, author articles, speak, and ultimately, author a book. This was one of the key motivators for me to turn into an author and publish two very relevant books, "Fearless Leadership - Lead to Win" and Decoding Project Leadership". Book books draw very heavily from real-world experiences on what went wrong, what we learned, and how we got it right. No wonder, both went on to become Amazon Bestsellers as they stuck a chord with the readers.
When we scout for the best talent, what do we look for? Educational degrees or real-world experience?
Obviously real-world experience. Looking deeply, what defines this experience? It is the sum total of success and failures. Failures always precede Success as it is a stepping stone.
We all proudly wear our badge of this beaten and weathered journey on our chest. The only point to remember is that only those who get up and get ready to start again and face the punches, win in this race of life.
Don't we know that rolling stone gathers no moss? Keep trying, keep failing, and keep improving & and learning. Just remember, fail faster.
